We chose to review only those safes that had a certified UL rating. UL is a not-for-profit organization that sets safety standards and certifies tests of products that ensure they meet those standards. We also narrowed down our search by selecting fireproof safes that had been rated by the UL, LLC, formerly known as Underwriters Laboratories. A bank safety-deposit box is the most secure place for valuables, but jewelry, passports, hard drives and other items that you want frequent access to, you may want to consider buying a fireproof safe for your home. Although the heavier safes are not completely burglar-proof, they aren’t easy for an intruder to grab.
